Each class, parents and teachers were asked to contribute one present to a refugee child. By the time of the party there were over 48 presents and each child was able to receive a personalized gift. On December 19 the Christmas party finally took place at the refugee home near the school in Horrem. Ten students from the Erasmus course together with Ms. Pfarr and Ms. Maas – the social worker assigned to the home – organized the Christmas party. During the party the children made Christmas ornaments out of ginger bread and popcorn and cranberries which they hung on an evergreen tree. Punch and cookies were served. After the Christmas tree was lit and admired, the children received their presents. Seeing the joy on their faces was a rewarding experience for all of us, but the most humbling were the expressions of gratitude from the parents.
